Laura is on the left of this picture. I wonder which mischievous child decided to start inking in the bun, and how it was reprimanded!
Laura, sister of Evie's mother Bessie, was the daughter of Penelope Ruscombe Poole and John Anstice. This pair of forebears are important to me as Penelope Ruscombe Poole is my great great great grandmother on both my father's and my mother's side. Intermarriage of cousins is something of an art form in my family's past.
Laura inherited weak joints and ankles from the Anstice side, a legacy of the intermarriage of cousins which knocks on down the generations to the present day. Bessie herself was also not very strong and died young. Both were very musical, with a love of music and the arts coming strongly down the Poole line.
