Tom and Evie end this chapter and the main part of the book by having tea poured from this silver pot with sugar from this little lidded box, both once owned by Bessie, Evie's mother.

Place

This chapter starts in Bavay but ends in Cologne, before Tom turns the noses of his horses for home.

People

All real. Tom and Luneau really did witness the re-entry of the Belgian King and Queen into Brussels.

 

Fact and Fiction

All as described. This is already quite a long chapter and I had to omit a scene where Tom calms a drunken Belgian riot unarmed, as he had left his gun beside his bed - see his own account for details of this funny scene.
